GREAT BOOTS I have been buying these boots for years as they are of the highest quality workmanship and are multi-use. Whether dining out, riding motorcycle, hunting/ranching, oilfield/construction work etc, this one boot fulfills all needs perfectly. A shame they are no longer available. Yes, I recommend this product.

Wildly inconsistent fit. Squeaking outsoles. Don’t ever believe someone who tells you that ALL Chippewa boots run large. Some do, some don’t; it’s a crap shoot. I bought this soft-toed version of the classic 17” black engineer boot online for motorcycle riding. My steel-toed version, the 27909, is a size 10-1/2, my usual size, and they’re rather large, requiring the use of double-thick insoles, so I ordered these in a size 10. They barely fit and the shafts are so narrow I can barely get my pant legs inside them.PRO: I like the sleeker toed box, as opposed to the bulky steel-toed boots, but you won’t see that difference here on Chippewa’s website where they use the same photo of the 27909 for both models (I guess we’re not supposed to be smart enough to notice, and Chippewa saved a few pennies). Overall, I like the oiled Black Odessa leather and the less bulky toe box of this model 27908.CON: The right heel squeaks LOUDLY when walking on hard surfaces, and did so soon after I got these boots. The shafts are much too narrow for a size 10 boot, and very inconsistent with my several other pairs of Chippewa 17” engineer boots: models 27909, 71418, 71419, 4578BLK and 4578CHO. Yes, I have a lot of these tall Chippewa engineer boots for motorcycle riding, and I know what I’m talking about. I’ve been wearing Chippewa boots for 40 years and I can conclusively state that it is nowhere near the company it used to be, and the boots it now produces are much lesser quality while the prices have gotten to be outrageous. But, when it comes to engineer boots, since Red Wing sells only junk within the U.S. and sends their best products overseas, Chippewa is pretty much the only American maker of mid-range engineer boots, especially the 17” models. The rest are made in China or elsewhere in countries that exercise even less quality control and which I don’t wish to enrich. I may have to start shelling out serious money and jumping to the next level. Yes, I recommend this product. |

I live in these boots These boots have seen it all in the last 8 or so years, from city streets covered in ice and snow to country nights, desert hikes, rock concerts, trips on two wheels, and mud. They're killer with a skirt, and I get compliments on them still. They've been worn more than any shoes I've ever owned, for longer. They show no signs of slowing down and look cooler than ever. Could really use a new leather insole; however, because the original ones gave up the ghost a year or two ago and now I can feel the slightest hint of the nails that hold the heels on. It's not stopping them, though. Excellent, excellent boots. Yes, I recommend this product. |

rugged I owned a pair of these boots and rode my bike across country multiple times. By the time they finally wore out it was hard finding a pair to replce them with that are near as durable or comfortable. Yes, I recommend this product. |
